“Petals” coffee table, designed by Jorge Zalszupin for L'Atelier, Brazil around 1959.

The table is composed of eight petal-shaped elements, made of curved plywood covered with rosewood veneer. They are arranged radially around a central iron structure.

Its construction reflects Zalszupin's mastery of materials and joinery techniques, as well as his search for expressive forms through solutions that were unusual in Brazil at that time.

International Klein Blue (IKB) was registered on May 19, 1960 at the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). The technical research for the development of this intensely blue color was an artistic act in itself. Yves Klein applied it to various supports and produced a prototype of a coffee table, which was both a work of art and a utilitarian piece of furniture.

Yves Klein was a multifaceted and avant-garde artist whose work challenged conventional art labels. His artistic approach encompassed various currents, including neo-Dadaism, pop art and abstract art, but in the end he invented his own current called “Noveau Réalisme”. In the 1960s, this trend sought to somehow merge life and art in a unique way.

Yves Klein, the monochrome. Neodadaist, Pop, Abstract... We could label his work with hundreds of words, without defining any of them. In the end, the artist invented the concept of Noveau Réalisme, which is one of the numerous avant-garde artistic trends of the 60s that sought in some way to unite life and art.

Klein's work is almost exclusively monochromatic, and in fact in the end he only used one color, International Klein Blue (IKB). He also did numerous artistic actions such as painting women's bodies blue (anthropometry), recording a long monotonous chord, exposing an empty room (there were 3,000 people queuing to see it) or stamping rain on a canvas while driving at 110 kilometers per hour.
