Luciano Bertoncini, born in 1939, lived and worked at a time when the art world was influenced by abstract expressionism,
This period, which mainly spanned the 1950s, focused on painting and artistic expression based on spontaneity and gesturality.
The leading artists of Abstract Expressionism, such as Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, Frank Kline, Barnett Newman, Clyfford Still and Adolph Gottlieb. They were noted for their focus on expressive brushstrokes and exploration of ideas related to organic nature, spirituality and the sublime.
These artists often used innovative techniques, such as dripping, splattering and pouring paint, to create works of art that reflected the energy and emotion of the creative process.
It is important to note that this artistic period was largely dominated by men, but the significant contribution of female artists such as Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell and Louise Bourgeois, who also played an important role in the development and evolution of Abstract Expressionism, is increasingly recognised.
Although Luciano Bertoncini was not an Abstract Expressionist painter, it is possible that the influence of this movement and its historical context may have had an impact on his own work and creative vision, as is the case with many artists working in different media and styles.
