Carlo De Carli (1910-1999) was a versatile Italian architect, designer, essayist and academic, whose career and thought had a profound impact on modern architecture and industrial design during the second half of the 20th century. His works stand out for their focus on functionality and contemporary aesthetics.
One of his most notable projects was the House for offices and homes in Milan, built between 1947 and 1949. This work marked the beginning of his outstanding career after the Second World War. In collaboration with the architect Antonio Carminati, he also designed the Teatro Sant'Erasmo in the basement of this building.
In addition, he participated in welfare and educational projects, such as the Opera Don Calabria complex in Cimiano, Milan, which included professional workshops, a middle school, a boarding house for the elderly and the Church of San Gerolamo Emiliani (1952-1965). He also designed the Nursing Home in Negrar, Verona (1955-1962), reflecting his commitment to caring for the elderly.
The Church of Sant'Ildefonso (1955-1956) in Milan is another of his notable creations, showing his skill for contemporary religious design.
