This diptych by Fernando de Ana is part of his visual exploration of the overlay of translucent geometric planes, where color and light become the true protagonists of the work. Each of the two panels functions independently, yet establishes a direct dialogue with its counterpart, creating a subtle balance between variation and repetition.
The painting is constructed from overlapping rectangular and square shapes, creating areas of chromatic intersection where the colors transform and acquire new intensities. The use of resin on panel allows for a polished and luminous finish, reinforcing the sense of depth and of layers suspended in the pictorial space.
The work belongs to a tradition of contemporary geometric abstraction, but it departs from constructivist rigidity to explore a more sensory and perceptual dimension. Fernando de Ana does not present geometry as a closed structure, but as a flexible system in which color, transparency, and light generate a visual experience that changes according to distance and the angle of the light.

Acrylic on canvas | Framed in a methacrylate case with a silver leaf background
This work by Damien Hirst, one of the most influential British artists in contemporary art, belongs to his celebrated Spin Paintings series. It was created in 2009 to mark the opening of the PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv, Ukraine, and is a prime example of this period in the artist's career.
The shark appears as the central motif of the composition and is one of the most recognizable icons within Hirst's creative universe. It is also associated with concepts such as life, death, power, and the sublime, which reinforces the piece's strong symbolic weight.
The creative process is based on a rotation system that expands the paint in all directions. As a result, chromatic explosions, dynamic transitions, and unique compositions are generated. In this way, the work conveys an unmistakable visual energy that connects with the tradition of gestural painting.
Hirst described these pieces as “a huge burst of energy, full of life, color, and optimism.” Therefore, in Shark Spin Painting, that vitality is amplified, producing a work of great aesthetic and emotional impact. Furthermore, it stands as a prime example of the visual language that has made Hirst a key figure in contemporary British art.
The painting is signed and stamped on the back, guaranteeing its authenticity. It is also protected in a museum-grade methacrylate case with a silver leaf background. This finish intensifies the contrasts, enhances the pigments, and consequently lends the piece an almost sculptural quality.
